Summary styles
A style decides the voice, depth and angle of every summary DistillTube writes for you. The same video can read as a quick brief, a deep dive, a critical takedown or a confident endorsement, depending on which style you pick.
Built-in styles
- Balanced The all-rounder and default. Covers every section evenly at a moderate depth: a short overview, a few paragraphs on the main points, a solid set of takeaways, clear chapters, plus resources and quotes when the video has them. Intended as a good, complete summary without a special angle.
- Quick read Maximum speed, minimum text. Boils the video down to the single main point and only the most essential supporting facts, graspable in under a minute. Skips background, detail and most quotes. Intended to triage a video and decide whether it is worth more time.
- In-depth The deep dive. A comprehensive write-up meant to replace watching the whole video: follows the arguments in detail, keeps nuances, context, examples and caveats, lists granular chapters and captures the meaningful resources and quotes. Intended for studying or for topics where the full picture matters.
- Actionable Built for doing, not just knowing. Reframes the content around what can actually be applied: takeaways become concrete, do-this steps, and the summary centers on practical advice, methods and tools while playing down theory and storytelling. Intended for how-to, tutorial and advice videos meant to be acted on.
- Simple language Explains the video as if to a smart beginner. Uses short sentences and everyday words, avoids jargon (and briefly defines it when unavoidable), and leans on concrete examples and analogies. Intended for unfamiliar or technical topics, or for an easy, no-jargon read.
- Explain like I'm 5 The friendliest, most down-to-earth take. Explains even complex ideas with simple words and everyday analogies, in a warm, playful tone, as if talking to a curious newcomer. Goes a step further than Simple language toward relatable comparisons over precision. Intended for intimidating topics that should finally click.
- Counterpoint Reads the video against the grain and pushes back hard. Every major claim is named AND immediately attacked: weak spots, missing context, unstated assumptions, plausible counter-arguments. The reader is clearly told where the video is unconvincing, oversimplified, or likely wrong. The actual content is still conveyed accurately, but the summary makes no secret of where it disagrees. Intended as a serious devil's advocate, not a polite both-sides recap.
- Champion Reads the video at its very best and unmistakably endorses it. Every major claim is presented in its strongest form and reinforced: supporting reasons, examples and context all line up behind the speaker. The reader is clearly told why this video matters and why its arguments hold up. Intended as a confident, affirming read that takes the speaker's side, the mirror image of Counterpoint.
- Harry G Style A summary in the voice of 'Harry G', the Bavarian cabaret Grantler: grumpy but charming, sharp everyday humor, ranting about the absurdities in the video while still conveying what it is actually about. Written in authentic Bavarian dialect, always in German regardless of the chosen language setting. Intended purely for fun.
- Oluf Style A summary in the voice of 'Oluf', the legendary character by Arthur Arntzen: the dry, sharp-tongued Northern Norwegian rural type who takes his revenge on everything urban, fancy and affected. Written in broad Northern Norwegian dialect (nordnorsk), always in Norwegian regardless of the chosen language setting. Intended purely for fun. The dialect is an approximation by the model, not perfect.
Your own styles
Beyond the built-in styles you can save reusable custom styles in Settings. Saved custom styles appear automatically in every style picker across DistillTube (account default, per-channel default, single-summary rebuild, audio briefing, project build).
Where you pick a style
- Account default: in Settings, used for every new summary unless overridden.
- Per channel: under Channels, give one channel its own default style.
- Per summary: on any single video, choose a style and press "Rebuild summary" to regenerate it.
- Audio briefing: the spoken version has its own voice-style picker, separate from the written summary.
- Project summary: when merging multiple videos into a project, pick the style for that build.
